It is NOT a good idea to drive all night to get here, not feed your children, have them only get an hour or so of poor sleep, and then dump the little darlings in ski school. Most likely you will get a phone call an hour later after little Johnny or little Susie has puked up because of tiredness and altitude sickness.
My suggestion is to take it very easy the first day. Drink plenty of water. Perhaps ski half a day in the afternoon. Allow kids to hang around the condo and get acclimatized to the high altitude. If both parents really want to ski the first day - switch off so Mom skis in the morning, then takes the kids while Dad hits the slopes in the afternoon.
When you do bring your children to ski school, throw an extra granola/energy bar or two in their pocket for snack time. Yes, we sometimes have a few snacks such as gold fish crackers or animal cookies, but a snack item that YOUR child will eat and enjoy is always better. Same thing is true for lunch. We rotate among pizza, subway sandwiches, chicken fingers, and hot dogs. Not every child is going to like what we serve on a given day, so pack 'em their own lunch! A few sandwiches (NOTE- NO PEANUT BUTTER ALLOWED), an apple or orange, perhaps an energy bar - the kids need to eat something to make it through a hard day of skiing.
Don't forget the sunscreen and eye protection; glasses or goggles are REQUIRED for all kids in ski school. You will also want to 'layer' the children's clothing. Three or four layers gives the child the option throughout the day to add or remove an undershirt or even a jacket if it becomes too warm. Be sure and retrieve any stored items from the kids castle or bigtop at the end of day.
