Rainbow Lake hike March 17, 2007

Wow, what a beautiful spring day! Temps in summit county were above 60 degrees. The slopes were in the mid 50s by the afternoon. Nice and warm for all the out of town spring break skiers this week.

I took the family on a short day hike to Rainbow Lake, just above Frisco, Colorado. it's only about 3/4 of a mile, and the trail was mostly packed snow. I wore my YakTrak on my shoes, but really did not need them other then a few spots of steeper terrain. We sat at the frozen lake edge and enjoyed beautiful views of Peak One and Mt. Royal.

Garrett and Rebecca amused themselves by taking some downed branches and logs and standing them upright on the frozen lake to create an interesting log sculpture garden of sorts. Of course, Duke, the dog, had the best time as he was running back and forth, diving into the snow banks, and generally reliving his puppyhood.

The only grrrrrr goes out to those inconsiderate dog owners who allow their canines to do thier business in the middle of the trail. C'mon folks, at least take a stick and throw it off the trail 10 feet or more if you don't have a poop baggie available
Overall, not bad for a wonderful early season hike in snow conditions.
